Before you move in
Whichever apartment type you choose, you should check if its building has a garage or a reserved parking spot. This will save you A LOT of time, energy, and money.
One of the first things to ask your property manager is if you have an assigned parking spot. Otherwise, ask your property manager when they think the best time of day is to move in. If you’re lucky, there will be a garage or a parking lot with plenty of room.
SMART budgeting goals are simple!! The SMART model is an acronym of Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Timely that has been widely used to set goals. Using this model to attain financial goals is a great way to set realistic budgets and stay on track!
A great budgeting technique is the 50/30/20 rule. Where you dedicate half of your after-tax income to necessities like food, rent, clothing, and bills, 30% should go toward entertainment and remaining 20% put aside for rainy days.
If your apartment rent and other expenses fit this budget strategy, you’re heading in a great direction!
While some apartment rents come with utilities included, most do not. You will likely have to pay separately for gas, electricity, cable, and internet. Find out about this in advance because it can significantly affect your budget.
Do some googling
One of the smartest things you can do before renting an apartment is to Google it and see if there are any complaints or reviews from current residents. If there are some problems with the building, chances are good the agent or property manager won’t tell you (but Google surely will). When there’s something serious going on with an apartment you should learn about it before signing your lease! Here at Prokey we take pride on being transparent of any issues and fixing them when they arrive. For more information about how we can guide you through the rental process, contact us today!
Talk to Your Prospective Neighbors
